The BPCS integrated software package belongs to the category of what we call ERP systems. The system developed by the American SSA Global Technologies (now a part of Infor) is currently installed in over 6,500 companies, 20,000 company seats globally. Comparing its functionality and efficiency to its price, it provides companies with a cost-effective solution to manage their business processes.

BPCS, as a transaction-based system, has a wide-ranging, ample database, which tracks the processes and transactions of the company by the minute, from production, through stock management and purchasing, to sales and financials. This decision-supporting and analysing system enables managers to get a sophisticated view of the financial and non-financial indicators of the company or unit.

The manufacturing data management modules form the "engine" of BPCS. The basis of these modules is developed according to the MRPII concept, but they support the new trends of manufacturing management and planning (e.g. JIT model, Lean philosophy), as well. With the help of these modules the manufacturing and purchasing plan can be defined, based on real customer demands and other general parameters. These plans can be transformed into manufacturing and purchasing orders, and their fulfilment as well as costs can then be tracked.

The inventory management module is in close connection with both the manufacturing, and the sales and purchasing modules. With the help of the stockpiling system, the actual and expectable stock can be tracked by the minute. User-defined parameters enable keeping the stock at optimal level, taking low cost, at the same time the security of supply and customer service into account.

The sales and customer order management module provides a flexible solution for handling various sales situations. With the help of the interfaces, which are parts of BPCS (SMG), the system can be easily complemented with the Internet and electronic order recording function, as well as electronic transmission of documents according to current requirements.

Naturally, traditional financial functions (current accounts, General Ledger) are included in the system. The financial modules also include the so-called configurable General Ledger, that enables keeping of several books simultaneously in addition to the traditional ledger functions (e.g. in two currencies, or meeting both national and foreign accounting requirements). Creating an analytical database for controlling purposes is also possible within this module (e.g. cost allocations by various projection bases).

Making use of the wide-ranging and rich functionality and database of BPCS, the most up-to-date solutions can be connected to the system. Most of them are now parts of the BPCS product family including work process modelling, decision supporting and planning for the top and middle management, customer relationship management, B2B and B2C electronic commerce, supply chain management as well as electronic purchasing.

The introduction of each integrated system must be accompanied by the precise assessment and revision of processes, and if necessary, their optimisation. The BPCS introduction methodology provides effective support to this. Based on the features of the software, it guides the users towards the fullest exploitation of the system's potentials.
